Preparing for Your Child’s First Day at Bumblebee Academy

We understand that starting childcare can be a big step for both you and your child. At Bumblebee Academy, we’re here to make the transition as smooth and comfortable as possible. Here’s everything you need to know to help your child prepare for their exciting first day!

Getting Ready for the First Day

To make sure your child feels confident and at ease, it’s helpful to plan and prepare ahead of time. Here’s what you can do to ensure a great start:

  • Talk About It: In the days leading up to their first day, talk to your child about their new adventure. Explain what they will do, who they’ll meet, and how much fun they’ll have playing with other children.
  • Visit Together: If possible, schedule a visit to the service before the first day. This helps your child become familiar with the environment, meet some of the educators, and feel more comfortable.
  • Create a Goodbye Routine: Establish a simple and consistent goodbye routine that helps your child feel secure when you leave. A hug, kiss, or special phrase can make saying goodbye easier and more reassuring.

What to Pack

To ensure your child is comfortable and has everything they need, we recommend packing the following essentials:

  • Comfort Item: If your child has a favourite stuffed animal or blanket, feel free to pack it for extra comfort during nap or rest time.
  • Change of Clothes: Pack a spare set of clothes with socks and shoes in case of spills or accidents.
  • Weather-Appropriate Clothing: Make sure your child is dressed for the day’s weather. Include a hat for sunny days or a jacket for cooler weather, as we spend time outdoors every day.
  • Water Bottle: A labelled water bottle will ensure your child stays hydrated throughout the day.

What to Expect on the First Day

On the first day, we’ll greet you and your child with warmth and care. Our educators will:

  • Introduce your child to the other children and give them a tour of the room.
  • Show them where their belongings go, such as where to place their bag and shoes.
  • Help them settle into the day’s activities and make them feel welcome.

Some helpful tips to create a smooth transition

It’s normal for some children (and parents!) to feel a bit anxious on the first day. Our educators are experienced in helping children transition smoothly. Try to:

  • Keep goodbyes short and positive.
  • Trust that your child will be well cared for and supported throughout the day.
  • Feel free to call us during the day for updates on how your child is settling in.

Building a Routine

Once the first day is behind you, it’s important to build a consistent routine. Arriving at the same time each day and keeping a steady drop-off routine will help your child feel secure and adjust to their new environment faster.

Staying in Touch

We know how important it is to stay informed about your child’s day. We provide regular updates and photos through our communication app so you can see how your child is doing, what they’re learning, and how they’re enjoying their time at Bumblebee Academy.
